On the Box Office, an accordion website, they’re selling a 1980’s Paolo Soprani red box, played for ten minutes, for $1000. To the best of my knowledge, a prewar or vintage Paolo would cost more. I know the grey boxes are the best or something, but since the website sells the red boxes new for about twice that, and the same price goes for a lot of the red boxes I’ve seen on eBay, I’m curious. Is something fishy going on here?
What do you know about the quality of past and present Paolos? If one was looking to buy said box, what years would one shoot for, and which ones should be avoided? Was there a time period when Paolo’s quality crashed (like what happened to Gibson guitars in the sixties)? Any information on these boxes would be appreciated very much.
